Roundtable: Scotland outside the EU

The Commission and Europa Institute held a roundtable in late March to discuss Scotland’s place in Europe after Brexit, what the impact of the change of First Minister may have and how the Scottish Government could forge closer ties with the EU as a constituent part of the UK.

Participants were drawn from Scottish politics, business, academia and civil society.

The discussion centred on Scotland’s opportunities to forge closer ties in culture, education and academia and politics, while noting that Scotland within the current settlement has little room for manoeuvre on issues like mobility, trade and security.

The event was held under Chatham House rules with an invited group of experts in attendance.

Its results will inform future publications and events on Scotland’s future outside the EU.

The Commission would like to thank the Europa Institute for their help and support.
